COLONISING SPACE #1
COLONISING THE MOON
As it may seem a
science fiction story but it is a need as well as a want for this human
civilization to grow and to live long enough and to make our earth a safer
place. Humans have to find a new home, and moon comes out to be a nice place as
we have had been there once. So colonizing moon must not be a tedious job. Humans
from ages have been the expansionist species, history is full of examples of
bigger powers colonizing the smaller ones. Killing those who resisted,
extracting resources, making colonies etc. but in the case of moon we are
fortunate enough that nobody will be killed only we will have a new home and
base for the future space explorations. Colonizing mars can be done more easily
by having a base on the moon.
Moon can give us plenty of
resources for our next explorations it can act as a refilling station for interplanetary
missions. There we can utilize the frozen ice and purify it to make water which
will help us in many ways, from that we can extract Hydrogen and Oxygen. Hydrogen
can later be used as fuel for refueling rockets for further interplanetary
missions. Experts estimate that the cost for one such moon base could be $10-20
billion and would span over a period of 10 years which is same as cost for the international
space station. Maybe more or less but it’s worth it, as the gravitational pull
on moon is one-sixth of that on earth so it would more energy efficient to send
rockets from moon to further solar system as it would require less furl to
launch off the surface of moon and to move away from its gravitational tug.
But it’s not as easy as it seems as
on moon one day lasts for 29 earth days that’s very much for humans to as they
are not adapted to such kind of environment. Secondly moon has no atmosphere of
its own so the asteroids hit directly to the surface which would make our base
on moon more vulnerable to hit by an asteroid and get destroyed so as to save
them from asteroid showers the bases should be made on the caves near the poles
where condition is a little worse with a day longing six months and night six
months which would create problem with solar panels as there would be no sunlight
to give them energy. They will have to set that space free and reach to new
destination where sunlight is present.
It’s a hard job but that’s what
we are good at. Some day or the other we will colonize moon and then mars
aiming the entire milky way.
very informative !!
